On the evening of April 29th, 2010 the current GameCon Officers gathered in a local office building with a goal in mind: to stamp 130 science fiction and fantasy books to be donated the next day to St. Aloyius' school. Forty-five minutes of exchanging nerdy banter, peeling stickers off books and stamping the inside covers, we met our goal and packed the books away to be presented to the school.

During the afternoon of April 30th, we gathered outside St. Aloyius’ school and met with the Librarian and Art Teacher, Nancy Giese. She greeted us with an exuberant smile and thanked us again for coming. Two young boys from the school volunteered to help carry in the large boxes of books, anxious to see why we had chosen to visit their school.

We entered into a quickly filling gymnasium to be greeted by children from kindergarten to eight grade and teachers from all different classes. Directly across from us was a sign made by the students that read, in bright markers and scrawled signatures, “Thank You For The Great Books!”

Nancy Giese introduced the GameCon Officers to the crowd. GameCon 2011 Convention Chair Chris Snell explained about the reason for our visit. The kids were so excited about the opportunity; they could hardly to wait to check the books out from their library! The kindergarteners were the first to approach the neatly organized table and when they left the books where everywhere! The classes all approached one after the other to inspect the table full of books.

As the kids shuffled away, they left the GameCon Officers with a sense of inspiration and renewed hope for GameCon 2011.

Thank you for making GameCon 2010 such a great success. We look forward to seeing you in January 2011!
